The Caribbean is a destination I hold close to my heart. We thoroughly enjoyed cruising through the Caribbean and loved spending time at different islands.
Our cruise was fantastic! We decided to cruise on NCL Getaway. Cruise options from Miami are unlimited, and I’m glad we chose the NCL Getaway.
Booking of our cruise: The cruise was very easy to book online once we decided which one to go with. Be sure to read lots of reviews before booking a cruise.
- Activities on the cruise liner: EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! Once at sea, there needs to be loads of entertainment and activities to keep you busy for the entire day.
- Food options: having a variety of food on a cruise liner is fantastic! It’s great to try something different each night.
Our time at sea was awesome, we did a host of activities such as leaning to salsa; attending an illusion show; Broadway productions; movies; firework display on the deck; games; waterslides; sports complex; and loads more… When we just wanted to relax, laying by the pools sipping on cocktails was the way to go. Most of activities on board are free but reservations are required for some of the shows. Each night on deck there would be a themed party, and if you not in the mood to be outdoors, there’s loads to do indoors – from the casino, to trying some of the bars (especially the ice-bar), attending comedy shows or indulging at Carlos Bake shop.
The Mandara spa onboard was great! A bit pricey as well, especially if your home currency is weaker than the USD!
Besides the great activities onboard, the food options were unlimited. We had choices from Italian; French; Japanese; Indian; and the old fashion burgers and fries. Trust me, you will not go hungry on this cruise. Be sure to keep space for dessert.
Our first island stop was Phillipsburg, St. Maarten. We had not booked any island tours, we both just wanted to enjoy the beach. At the port, there are many duty free stores which you can shop at. Even though it says “duty free” it doesn’t mean that it’s cheap. We asked around as which is the best beach we should visit. Transport around the island is mainly by taxis. We started at Waikiki beach, walked to Bikini beach and ended up at Kontiki beach. It was really beautiful! We rented some beach chairs and spent most of the day enjoying the water.
I simply loved the calm, gentle waves. Swimming in those turquoise waters was amazing! We were basically beach bums for the day! Swimming in the ocean, napping on the beach chairs, and sipping cocktails from the beach bar. What a perfect day!!!
Our next island, a day later was St. Thomas in the US Virgin islands. I love water activities, so we decided to go out on a catamaran (‘The Cat’) for snorkeling. We spent most of the day out snorkeling and enjoying the sun shine. The snorkeling was pretty awesome as we had many sea turtles swimming beneath us.
After all that island fun it was time to cruise to Nassau, Bahamas. Nassau is a lot more commercialized than the other 2 islands. I’ve been to Nassau previously and it is very beautiful. We visited Atlantis, Paradise Island where we did the dolphin interaction, spent time at Paradise beach, Atlantis Marina and then visited Downtown Nassau, the straw market and the Pirates of Nassau (the Pirate museum was on my previous trip).
The dolphin interaction was just out of this world! Having these gentle giants next to me left me speechless. It was also a very educational experience. The Atlantis was beautiful, I just loved taking the water taxi from Atlantis to Down Town. I really liked Nassau town. The different colour buildings and local culture gives the Town a vibrant atmosphere. Our time was limited so it’s definitely somewhere I’d like to go back to explore.
We had an amazing trip and we were both sad to leave the ship in Miami. The cruise was fantastic and so were all the Islands.
What I really loved about being at sea:
* Being on the deck at night to view the stars
* Watching the sunset over the ocean
* Starring out at the ocean with nothing else in sight but the ocean….
